If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s that getting healthier isn’t always as simple as eating less and moving more.
Believe me, I’ve tried my share of diets! Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, and more quick-fix programs than I care to remember. Like so many people, I’ve lost weight, gained weight, and started over more times than I can count.
But somewhere along the way, I started realizing something important.
For me, the hardest part of losing weight isn’t always the food. It’s what’s going on in my head.
I’ve struggled with emotional eating, overeating, and those moments when I know I’m not physically hungry but reach for something to eat anyway. Sometimes it’s stress, sometimes frustration, and sometimes it’s just one of those days when I feel like throwing healthy choices right out the window!
And I’m learning that those feelings deserve attention, too.
These days, I’m trying to approach things differently.
Instead of following another restrictive diet, I’m working on understanding why I eat the way I do. I’m exploring intuitive eating, learning to recognize when I’m truly hungry, paying attention to when I’ve had enough, and trying to work through my emotions instead of eating to avoid them.
Does it always work? Absolutely not! 😂
Some days I do really well. Other days, those old habits come creeping back.
And believe me, I’m still learning!
I’ve made progress with my weight, and I’m proud of that. But I’m also learning that progress isn’t just about the number on the scale.
It’s about recognizing old patterns, making choices that feel right for me, and being a little kinder to myself when things don’t go as planned.
I don’t have all the answers, and I’m certainly not here to tell anyone how they should eat or lose weight. I’m simply sharing what’s worked for me, what hasn’t, and what I’m still figuring out.
One thing I know for sure is that having people who understand makes a difference.
That’s one of the reasons I love being part of Get Healthy with Us. Rese and I are both working on our own health journeys, and neither of us has everything figured out.
We have good days, frustrating days, and plenty of moments when we need a little encouragement ourselves!
My journey is still a work in progress, and that’s okay.
I’m taking it one day at a time, learning as I go, and hoping to make some wonderful friendships along the way.
Thanks for being here and sharing this journey with me! ❤️
Jan
